Small Area Fair Market Rents (SAFMRs).
Small Area Fair Market Rents (SAFMRs) are FMRs calculated for postal code. Small Area FMRs are needed to be used to set Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher payment requirements in areas designated by HUD (offered here). Other Housing Agencies operating in or non-metropolitan counties may opt-in to the use of Small Area FMRs. Furthermore, Small Area FMRs might be used as the basis for setting Exception Payment Standards - PHAs may set exception payment requirements up to 110 percent of the Small Area FMR. PHAs administering Public Housing systems might use Small Area FMRs as an alternative to city area-wide FMRs when computing Flat Rents. Please See HUD's Small Area FMR Final Rule for extra information concerning the usages of Small Area FMRs.
