Perfecting the Arabic User Experience Design

Last week, a entrepreneur complained that his platform strategy was costing considerable sums of riyals with disappointing performance. After reviewing his strategy, I identified multiple critical errors that are surprisingly common among Saudi businesses.

Important elements:

  • Extended decision periods in Saudi buying paths
  • Collective input factors in buying choices
  • Messaging as a significant but difficult-to-track effect platform
  • Physical confirmation as the final purchase trigger

For a banking customer, we created a content series about household money management that included halal investment concepts. This information outperformed their earlier standard financial advice by 417% in engagement.

With detailed analysis for a meal service client, we identified that campaigns shown between evening hours substantially exceeded those delivered during standard peak hours, generating substantially higher sales.

During my previous project for a financial services company in Riyadh, we discovered that users were frequently clicking the wrong navigation items. Our user testing showed that their attention naturally moved from right to left, but the main navigation elements were located with a left-to-right hierarchy.

The most successful Saudi brands recognize that people don't distinguish in terms of mediums. My financial client saw a seventy-six percent growth in potential customers after we connected their once disconnected platforms.

Helping a healthcare provider, we changed their reading-intensive wellness content into visual storytelling with illustrations. This technique improved their information engagement by over two hundred percent.

  • Shifting CTA buttons to the right side of forms and pages

  • Reconsidering content prioritization to move from right to left

  • Redesigning clickable components to follow the right-to-left scanning pattern

  • Reorganized the application process to align with right-to-left cognitive patterns

  • Built a bilingual data entry process with intelligent language toggling

  • Optimized touch interfaces for right-handed Arabic text entry

For a premium company, we developed a Saudi-specific attribution approach that understood the special conversion route in the Kingdom. This approach discovered that their social media spending were truly delivering two hundred eighty-six percent more returns than previously measured.

  • Created a numerical presentation system that accommodated both Arabic and English numbers

  • Restructured charts to read from right to left

  • Used graphical cues that aligned with Saudi cultural meanings

  • Choose fonts purposely developed for Arabic digital display (like GE SS) rather than conventional print fonts

  • Enlarge line spacing by 150-175% for enhanced readability

  • Use right-oriented text (never centered for main content)

  • Stay away from compressed Arabic text styles that diminish the characteristic letter structures

As someone who has developed over 30 Arabic websites in the last half-decade, Jeddah website optimization I can tell you that applying Western UX standards to Arabic interfaces simply doesn't work. The unique characteristics of Arabic language and Saudi user preferences require a completely different approach.

Unexpected discoveries:

  • Ephemeral platforms outperforming Image networks for certain products
  • Night marketing significantly exceeding morning efforts
  • Motion media producing higher ROI than still graphics
  • Mobile effectiveness outperforming laptop by considerable degrees

I chuckle when clients insist they're using the "latest" digital marketing strategies but haven't updated their approach since 2022. The digital landscape has changed significantly in just the past year.

For a technology company, we discovered that their international information was substantially higher quality than their local language material. After enhancing their Arabic content quality, they saw a 129% improvement in purchases from Arabic-speaking users.

  • Distinctly indicate which language should be used in each form element
  • Dynamically adjust keyboard language based on field type
  • Place form text to the right side of their connected inputs
  • Verify that error notifications appear in the same language as the required input

For a clothing retailer, we performed a detailed channel effectiveness assessment that uncovered their best performing channels were completely different from their international trends. This finding allowed a reallocation of investment that improved their total ROI by two hundred thirteen percent.

  • Locate the most essential content in the right upper corner of the screen
  • Arrange content blocks to advance from right to left and top to bottom
  • Implement more prominent visual importance on the right side of equal compositions
  • Verify that directional icons (such as arrows) point in the right direction for RTL layouts

Powerful techniques:

  • Adding Saudi financial services like local services
  • Improving local details
  • Showcasing Saudi assistance availability
  • Adding credibility indicators customized for Saudi customers
